Go China! - Assen - Groningen
It's year 2008. Year of Olympic games in China. As a nice side effect of it there are expositions of Chinese art, culture and history around Europe. For example exhibition of terracotta army in London. But you can find members of terracotta army in Netherlands too. And not only them. So we spent Saturday by traveling around Netherlands and admiring Chinese art. First we went to Groningen. We thought that we find terracota army there. Well they are not there. But there is splendid exhibition of bronze objects from 18th till 3rd century B.C. (see the first photo). And there is also exhibition of contemporary chinese art (see the second photo - Liu Wei, The New Generation, 1991). Everything is located in Groninger Museum. We found out there that we have to go to Assen if we want to see terracotta guys. So we walked through center of Groningen. We wanted to see some highlights of contemporary architecture (for example bus stop from Rem Koolhaas). Kristyna dropped her camera making it more or less useless. Well her Minolta Xt was already dying anyway. So in one of local shops she got her new Leica D-Lux 3. We took train to Assen, found Drents Museum and saw those guys. It was really nice experience. I admit it was crowded but there's no limit for amount of visitors per day (opposite to exhibition in London). So if you are interested exhibition ends in August. No sense in boycotting this one.
